The United States announced that Covid-19 tests would no longer be mandatory for international travelers arriving by air, White House Assistant Press Secretary confirmed the news. As the omicron variant swept the world, the Joe Biden administration toughened the requirement and required all travelers, regardless of vaccination status, to test within a day of travel to the U.S.

Earlier All passengers had needed to show a negative Covid-19 test taken shortly before travel or proof of having recovered from the virus in the past 90 days — before they boarded their flight.

The U.S. Travel Association, a trade group, projects that dropping the testing requirement will bring 5.4 million additional international visitors to the United States and $9 billion in additional travel spending through the end of the year.
