Shillong: An elegant hill station

Shillong, the state capital of Meghalaya, is one of the most well-known cities in India. It is also known as the ‘Scotland of the East, as it is thought to be influenced by Scottish European immigration. The cooler climate and magnificent natural views of the hill station touch the heart of every visitor who visits the valley. There are many spots of attraction that have added to the splendor of the hill station and made it one of the most visited tourist destinations.

Shillong is well-connected with most of India’s major cities in terms of transportation as several mediums, including railways, air, and roadways are available for transportation.

The Shillong Peak and Viewpoint is the city’s highest point located in the Laitkor area, from where the city’s grandeur can be admired as it offers a captivating 360-degree view of the city. The vantage point, situated on the outskirts of Shillong, is one of the most prominent attractions in Meghalaya.

The Elephant Falls are beautiful lakes named for an elephant-like boulder near the main waterfall where three other waterfalls are in the queue. Unfortunately, the elephant-shaped stone was destroyed in an earthquake in the 18th century.

The Sweet Falls are appeared to be the most stunning waterfalls in the area, though it is said that it is a haunted waterfall.

The Spread Eagle Falls, also known as the Sati Falls, are Shillong’s largest waterfalls located in the cantonment region of Shillong. It is one of the most popular destinations in the city for picnics or recreational activities.

The Air Force Museum is located near Shillong Airport. It has a massive collection of various vintage photographs that can help to learn more about the Indian Air Force.

The Khasi Heritage Village is one of the key attractions in Shillong. It is a significant place to visit to know more about Meghalaya’s ancient culture and historical activities.
